Think of each of the 9 Steps to Action as like the links in a chain; just as with a chain, the act of willing something to action, is only as strong as the weakest link.
Identifying which step of the chain we gravitate towards, where we move easily through, where we get stuck and where we instinctively avoid can be helpful if we notice we are feeling stuck, or unable to take action!
Let’s break each of the 9 Steps to Action down…
1: PURPOSE
Our big WHY in being here; why you’re alive, your North Star and sense of overall life direction. Can you articulate clearly and confidently what this is for you and connect in to it?
2: VALUES
What’s important to you and what you stand for. They are at the core of how we express ourselves and relate to other people.
Can you articulate clearly and confidently what these are for you?
3: MINDSET & BELIEFS
Your attitudes and beliefs develop based on what you have learned from people around you and experiences you have had. Sometimes our beliefs serve us well and propel us forward, keep us safe and drive our success, while other times they can frustrate us immensely if we outgrow them or we find them holding us back from moving forward in the direction we desire.
4: INTENTION-SETTING
Getting really clear on what exactly you’re attempting to do here and knowing your motives. What is it specifically that you want to accomplish or take action towards? How badly do you want to achieve this? How will you know when you’ve accomplished your goal? How confident are you that this is achievable? How willing are you to take accountability or responsibility for the decision when it’s made?
Oftentimes we are trying to make a decision but don’t have clarity on what it is we want to do, or what success would look like, which makes it hard to then deliberate effectively or make a choice as we have nothing to anchor back or align to.
5: DELIBERATION
The process of weighing up your options, thinking about which path you could take, wondering how to get there, considering alternatives, considering the implications.
6: CHOICE
The act of making a clear and conscious decision of what you are going to do - aligned with your intention, taking into account the deliberation process. This also involves deciding what we won’t do.
7: AFFIRMATION
Supporting and energising our choice! Celebrating the choice being made, sharing the decision with others, making it known, saying it out loud, feeling the weight (or lifting of weight sometimes) of making a decision.
8: PLANNING
Working out how you will put this action into place effectively. What you will need to do, how you can use your strengths to support you, who else can support you, how long it will take, when to begin.
9: ACTION
Taking action and making it happen!
